Aircraft > Long Range Jet

Bombardier had already firmly established itself as a major player in the long-range jet segment thanks to its Global Express luxury jet. They solidified their position even more in 2001 with the introduction of the Global Express 5000, shorter range, smaller cabin variant of the original Global Express.

The Bombardier Global 5000 (Model BD-700-1A11) was designed with international business in mind. This long-range jet delivers an impressive transcontinental range of 4,800 nmi (8,900 km) with speeds up to Mach 0.85 and high-density seating for between 8 and 19 passengers (5,200 nautical miles with 8 passengers and full baggage compartment).

Traveling between nearly any two cities with just one fuel stop, chartering the Global Express 5000 allows executives to manage their business in every corner of the globe.

Interior

Despite removing nearly 6 feet of length from the fuselage, Bombardier designed the Global 5000’s interior for superior comfort during transoceanic flights, creating a spacious, elegant cabin that feels like you’re traveling in a luxurious hotel room.

By default, the cabin is divided into three areas, which may include a VIP bathroom or a luxuriously appointed stateroom. Typical configurations provide fully-berthable seating for 13 passengers, with insulation to reduce cabin noise and newer engines producing less vibration.

Early models kept the Honeywell Primus 2000XP avionics, which was later updated with Rockwell Collins Fusion avionics beginning in 2012.

Performance

Bombardier upgraded the powerplant of their Global platform with the introduction of the Express 5000, using Rolls Royce’s BR710A2-20 engines that offer increased fuel efficiency and lower operational costs. These same engines made their way onto the Global XRS and 6000.

Despite its massive size, the Global Express 5000 features class-leading runway performance thanks to an auto-braking system and oversized brakes, giving it stopping power on par with some light jets. In fact, it’s one of the only long-range jets class capable of operating at London City Airport (FAA ID: EGLC).
