Aircraft Detail

The Socata TBM 700 was originally developed in a joint venture with Mooney Airplane Company in Kerrville, Texas; the designation ‘TBM’ comes from the initials ‘TB’ for the French city in which SOCATA was located, Tarbes, and ‘M’ for Mooney.

The goal of the design was to maximize speed, altitude, and reliability, and the 700 model became available in several different configurations and models; 324 of the original TBM were built during its 15-year production run.

The TBM 700C2 increased the maximum takeoff weight to 7,394 lb (3,354 kg), alleviating weight restrictions and allowing the plane to fly with full tanks and maximum occupancy.

The TBM 700’s true airspeed of 300 knots at high-speed cruise is higher than most twin-turboprops while consuming roughly half the fuel, and its 1,460 nm range with IFR reserves is competitive with many twin-engine props in the King Air series.
