Aircraft Details

The Citation Encore was announced by Cessna in 1998 at the annual NBAA convention. An upgraded version of their Ultra successful light jet, the Encore was equipped with new Pratt & Whitney 535 engines, increasing the fuel capacity for more range, and better all-around performance.

Additional modifications to the 560E included a trailing link main undercarriage, increased fuel capacity, updated interior with an additional cabin seat, and improved networking/avionics systems. The Encore was certified in the spring of 2000, with its first deliveries beginning in the fall of 2000. A total of 168 models were delivered until Cessna introduced the Encore+.

Let’s take a look at how to Encore compares to its competition within the light jet segment. The CJ3 offers better fuel economy and runway performance, but comes with a shorter cabin. The Learjet 45XR flies faster with a higher payload, but requires a longer runway and is less fuel-efficient. The CJ4 offer a higher payload and a longer range, but costs more.

Citation Encore Plus

For the Citation Encore+, Cessna added FADEC and Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 avionics with a center MFD and both side PFDs. The new features increased the overall weight of the aircraft by 200 lbs, and with a fuel tank, can carry a payload of 850 lbs – 1,170 lbs. Short runway performance remains virtually untouched, requiring only 3,520 feet of runaway in ISA conditions.

The result is a light jet with an 1,800 nmi (3,300 km) range at 390 kn (720 km/h) TAS, equaling the speed of the CJ3+, while just slower than the CJ4. It can fly with one pilot but most are operated with two – Air Charter Advisors always recommend two pilots for added safety.

The upgraded Citation Encore+ received FAA certification towards the end of 2006, and was offered from 2007 through early 2010, with a total of 65 delivered. The Citation Encore Plus is currently valued at around $3.5 million on the pre-owned market.
