Cessna got a standing ovation for their upgraded 560 model so they decided to come back for an Encore. The Cessna CE560E Citation Encore was the last model in the Cessna 560 series, a production run that lasted from 1987 (Citation V) through 2011.
The Citation Encore features upgraded engines, better fuel performance, a redesigned interior cabin, and advanced avionics in the cockpit. The Encore offers a range of 1,800 nmi with seating up to 8 passengers.
The Encore is versatile and economical while remaining luxurious. It offers superb versatility in the light jet class, covering impressive distances, arriving & departing using shorter runways, and hauling a heavy load. Passengers will enjoy a comfortable cabin, smooth flight, and its low charter costs.
The cost to charter a Cessna Citation Encore starts at around $3,000 an hour*, and the hourly rate will vary based on year of make/model, aircraft scheduling, routing, and positioning, and other factors; charter rates for the Encore+ start at around $3,500 an hour*.
The Citation Encore was announced by Cessna in 1998 at the annual NBAA convention. An upgraded version of their Ultra successful light jet, the Encore was equipped with new Pratt & Whitney 535 engines, increasing the fuel capacity for more range, and better all-around performance.
Additional modifications to the 560E included a trailing link main undercarriage, increased fuel capacity, updated interior with an additional cabin seat, and improved networking/avionics systems. The Encore was certified in the spring of 2000, with its first deliveries beginning in the fall of 2000. A total of 168 models were delivered until Cessna introduced the Encore+.
Let’s take a look at how to Encore compares to its competition within the light jet segment. The CJ3 offers better fuel economy and runway performance, but comes with a shorter cabin. The Learjet 45XR flies faster with a higher payload, but requires a longer runway and is less fuel-efficient. The CJ4 offer a higher payload and a longer range, but costs more.
For the Citation Encore+, Cessna added FADEC and Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 avionics with a center MFD and both side PFDs. The new features increased the overall weight of the aircraft by 200 lbs, and with a fuel tank, can carry a payload of 850 lbs – 1,170 lbs. Short runway performance remains virtually untouched, requiring only 3,520 feet of runaway in ISA conditions.
The result is a light jet with an 1,800 nmi (3,300 km) range at 390 kn (720 km/h) TAS, equaling the speed of the CJ3+, while just slower than the CJ4. It can fly with one pilot but most are operated with two – Air Charter Advisors always recommend two pilots for added safety.
The upgraded Citation Encore+ received FAA certification towards the end of 2006, and was offered from 2007 through early 2010, with a total of 65 delivered. The Citation Encore Plus is currently valued at around $3.5 million on the pre-owned market.
Air Charter Advisors offers private jet sales & acquisition services for individuals, business groups and corporate flight departments looking to purchase a Cessna Citation Encore.
The cost of ownership for 200 hours of flying includes a total annual budget of around $710k, with around $330k in total fixed costs and nearly $380k in variable costs. This results in direct operational costs of around $2,000 per hour. The cost to acquire a used model is between $1.8 and $3 million.
