The Cherokee Six is a versatile aircraft designed for general aviation, including personal transportation, air taxi, charter flights, and utility missions. The PA-32 Cherokee Six is also known as the PA-32-260, PA-32-300

Later, this model was given retractable landing gear and was adapted into the Piper Lance and Saratoga with models PA-32-301, PA-32-301T, PA-32-301FT, and PA-32R.

The PA-32-260 offered slower climbing speed, lower cruise speeds but offered a higher useful load. This model came as a 6 and 7 seater option with mostly forward facing seats.

The PA-32-300 climbs faster and cruises at higher speeds, but offers a lower load than the 260. The 300 came as both forward facing and club seating.

In 1979, Piper changed from a 4-fuel tank selector in the cabin to a 2 tank selector (still having 2 main tanks and 2 bleeder tanks on both wings) as an upgrade. This was also the last of the “Hershey bar” wing style. This model was named the Piper Six 300, and is the most sought after year.

Piper developed the Cherokee Six by stretching the fuselage of the original PA-28 Cherokee, which offered up to 4 seats, allowing for 6 seats with one pilot and five passengers.

The cabin of the Cherokee Six is roomy and comfortable, with club seating that faces each other and give the aircraft more of a limousine feel. Other configurations include forward-facing club seating. There is also plenty of legroom and headroom for passengers during regional charter flights.

Another one of the primary benefits offered by the Cherokee Six is its payload and cargo-carrying capacity, offering a useful load of anywhere between 1,000 – 1,500 lbs depending on it’s configuration and avionics making it suitable for passengers, luggage, and freight.

The baggage compartment is located in the rear of the aircraft, and a connecting door opens alongside the passenger door to provide ample room when storing luggage, equipment, or other items.

Powered by a Lycoming engine, the Cherokee 6 utilized various models throughout its production history. The earlier models featured the Lycoming O-540 engine, and IO-540 engine, while later models, such as the PA-32-301 and PA-32-301T, offered the addition of a turbocharged option for improved performance at higher altitudes.

Piper PA-32-260 models featured a Lycoming O-540-E4B5 engine, while the PA-32-300 was equipped with a more powerful IO-540-K1G5 engine, with 260 and 300 horsepower respectively.

Exact specifications will vary depending on the specific model, but the typical cruise speed ranges from 140 to 160 knots (161 to 184 mph), with a range of around 800 nautical miles.

A fixed-gear PA-32 was later reintroduced in 2003 as the Piper 6X and the turbocharged 6XT and experienced a short run through 2007 following subpar sales.

The performance, comfort, and versatility of this single-engine piston aircraft make it a popular choice for regional charter flights in the Northeast, Florida, Texas, and the West Coast.
