Airports in the Turks & Caicos

Rent a private jet to the Turks and Caicos Islands, a British Overseas Territory in the Atlantic Ocean located southeast of the Bahamas, and around 650 miles (1,042 km) east of Miami. Technically, the islands are located in the Atlantic Ocean and not the Caribbean, but are often associated with the Caribbean due to its tropical climate and luxury offerings.

Home to more than than 230 miles of pristine, white-sand beaches and some of the best coral reefs in the world, the Turks & Caicos Islands are a Caribbean gem, and a popular destination for luxury travelers — it’s only 90 minutes away from Miami, and around a 3 hour flight from New York City.

The islands are often abbreviated as TCI, and although there are 40 islands and cays stretching across 37 miles, only 12 of the islands are inhabited. The population is just over 35,000, of which 80% of the people live in Providenciales, known locally as Provo.

Climate

Private flights to the Turks & Caicos are ideal year-round thanks feature a sunny yet relatively dry marine tropical climate. Temperatures stay consist through most of the year, with highs fluctuating between 84F – 88F from May to November, then dipping into the low 80’s with comfortable night-time lows of 73F during winter months.

Please note that Hurricane Season lasts from June to November, and the potential for nasty tropical storms can land outside of that time-frame as well. Rain can be sporadic over the summer, and fewer crowds means more availability, although clients should keep in mind that during this season is when some places close for renovations.

Getting There

There are two major airports for heavy jets, long-range jets and VIP airliners to utilize, Providenciales International (PLS) and JAGS McCartney International (GDT), although the latter doesn’t offer scheduled international service.

North and South Caicos offer limited entry facilities, while all of the other islands have smaller domestic airports that are perfect for pistons and turboprops. East and West Caicos are uninhabited, and do not have an airport — that doesn’t mean you can’t explore them with a private yacht charter.

The islands are an overseas territory of the United Kingdom. A valid passport is required for all US citizens. The currency used in the island is the US dollar and the primary spoken language is English. Daylight savings is observed and TCI utilizes the Eastern Time Zone (EST).

Luxury Hotels

Tucked away from glitz and glamour of the Bahamas, this is one of the few remaining outposts in the Caribbean that hasn’t been entirely consumed by tourism. For luxury travelers in the know, these formerly pirate-infested islands are the perfect place for discreet hideaways.

That said, almost all of your luxury hotel, including all of the five-star offerings, are located on Providenciales; visitors staying in Provo can choose between all inclusive hotels, a resort suite condo, or a private villa or inn. There are a total of 143 accommodations across the island, however, the only other four-star offerings outside of Provo are located on South Caicos.
